Precious Associates’ (PAL ’s) Consultancy projects provide an independent, external view of an organisation’s position.
We provide consultancy services to a wide range of organisations in the marine sector. We work with managers to review shipping company structures, systems and skills and to develop practical recommendations and plans for change and enhancement. Our expertise in the ‘people’ side of shipping means we are aware of the issues and requirements that are unique to the maritime industry.
Whether we are working with a shipping client on organisation structure, developing and implementing systems and processes, or developing the performance of an Officer management team, we adopt a structured approach and follow a tried and tested consultancy model. From initial meeting, through the steps of Assessment, Design, Delivery and Review we work in partnership with the client.
We believe that our in-depth knowledge of the marine personnel environment, systematic approach, and strong client relationships throughout projects enables us to develop recommendations and proposals that work in the sector.

Our Consultancy services vary widely, but some typical projects have covered:
- Review of ship management operations for a client considering combining two fleets of vessels and identify the impacts of costs and manpower requirements
- Review the operation of a ship management company for a major ship owner.
- Quality review of services provided by a remote marine manning agency
- Development of a programme for a newly formed Officer management team based around an initial assessment followed by a series of workshops over 18 months
- Provide an assessment of the Senior Management team of a shipping company and recommend development actions to improve their operation as a team overseeing the companies operations
- Review of shorebased ship management operation for a public sector client and recommendation of a revised ship management structure
